Syber Symon’s musical roots and
taste for performing can be traced back to his teens when he played in a band
called Starbabies but while the band enjoyed early success, the call of dance
music proved to be just too strong. By the early 90’s he'd become smitten by
the early rave scene and UK music festivals so it wasn’t long before he turned
his talents to DJ’ing and since then he’s never looked back.
Armed with his trusty record bag,
Symon travelled all across Europe in the mid 90’s and began DJ’ing at festivals,
playing on large-scale sound systems such as Laurie Immersion’s famous Immersion
rig at Teknivals in Prague and Holland, where he was an immediate hit with the
revellers who loved his downright funky style. On returning to England he
quickly established himself as one of the rising stars of the London techno party
scene playing alongside the likes of the Liberator DJ’s at legendary warehouse
parties like Quazar and Camden Parkway
cinema, as well as underground clubs like Brixton’s 414 Club and Underground
Frequencies. Again the crowd loved his style and bookings came in for gigs at
clubs all around the UK
followed by appearances on the festival scene at Frome Festival, the mighty
Megadog Solipse solar eclipse party and at Glastonbury Festival. Sy or Sly to
his friends, rocked the aftershow parties for four consecutive years.
Now fully immersed in the dance
music scene, in the late 90’s Sly started working in seminal London
record shop Trackheads. This led to studio collaborations with D.A.V.E the
Drummer culminating in the critically acclaimed tracks Hydraulix # 4 and
Hydraulix # 14 and further collaborations with Guy “Geezer”
McAffer, and DJ Ant led to several other notable releases on RAW, Infected and
Nukleuz.
After making a strong impression
on the UK scene,
Symon felt the need to stretch his wings and in March 2003 he left for Australia
where he quickly gained a similar reputation and headlined gigs in Melbourne
at the Factory, Virus and the infamous Yeah, Fuck Yeah, while also finding the
time to host his own show on local radio.
Back from Oz and based once again
in London, Sy has kept up the
pressure by hosting his own night Futureshock in London’s
ever-so-trendy Shoreditch where you’ll see him experimenting with three decks
dropping a killer mix of electro-sleaze, warped house and punked-out beats. Now
a respected regular on the London scene Symon is recognised for both his
versatility and tune selection and when not ripping it up on the dancefloor, he
works for record distributors Intergroove where he has access to all the latest
releases and cutting edge tunes, ensuring that he stays on top of his game and
ahead of the pack.
