One
of the team at the Edinburgh vinyl mecca Underground Solu'shun,
B*Wilder has been a sought after DJ and respected producer for many
years. Having spent his formative years as a DJ playing at art-student
parties and small proto-techno nights, he soon found his skills being
employed at some of the most respected club nights in the UK.
Having become a resident alongside tech-house DJ Euan James at seminal local
Edinburgh night Lift, a club responsible for breaking acts such as the
Liberator DJs, Colddust, DOM, DJ Misjah and Thomas Krome to the
Edinburgh public, he has since played at nearly every techno event
worth mentioning in the area. Through the experience and contacts
gained here, he soon found himself DJing all across the UK at nights
such as Sex Love and Motion, Torture Garden, Nuclear Free Zone, Absolute and Havok.
His love of experimental sounds mixed with razor-sharp beats and
growling basslines have never failed to impress. B*Wilder's sets are
reknowned for their vast musical reference and diversity - this is
alsoreflected in his productions, where no style or ideal is taboo.
Having produced a vast array of works, he has covered nearly every
style conceivable. Inspired equally by acts such as German experimental
dance outfit Mouse on Mars as he his by more contemporary producers
such as Derek Carter, his love of chopping and changing direction and
style consistently leave audiences screaming for more.
Part of this love for stepping out of suffocating frameworks and
playing around with concepts of style can be attributed to his position
within the Underground Solu'shun crew. As one of the team responsible
for buying in a wide range of music - not just Techno - he enjoys an
exposure to all known forms of music from jazz to house via drum &
bass and all sorts of subgroups and genres.
He is also highly regarded for his part in many local techno riots, and
is responsible for providing the more spirited amongst the scene with a
place to enjoy acid-soaked nights of hard techno, reminiscant of old
Edinburgh club nights such as Sativa and Purple Moon. It has been
through his friendships with many on the scene, including the
Liberators, D.A.V.E the Drummer, Ant and Guy Mcaffer, that we have seen
so many fantastic live and DJ acts appear at these little slices of
underground mayhem.
B*Wilder's love of warped textures and tones have placed him in an
excellent position to contribute highly-specialised audioscapes for cinematic score and sound design work. His passion in this field was
one of the deciding factors in the Avionix Records passage down this road
and his influence here remains as strong as ever.
