Mark Hawkins was born in London U.K. in July 1976. He was introduced to music from an early age, his father insistant on playing Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa and dub too loud on a saturday morning. His father also introduced him at an early age to electronic sounds, such as John Fox, and White Noise, and gave him a copy of Afrikka Bambaata's Planet Rock, dismissing it as another electronic novelty record, at the age of 9.
Later on as acid house hit the U.K. the interest in electronic music grew. At 16 he went travelling in search of the parties that were happening in the wake of the imfamous Castlemorton free festival and generally in search of a good time, and discovered techno for the first time.
After a few years he was Djing at the parties, on sound systems such as Virus, Samovar, Desert Storm and Dagobah. soon after he moved into playing at clubs starting off warming up at the Samovar club nights, moving on to play at Amorphous and Ugly funk. Then he moved into production, his first release, a split e.p with Michael Forshaw. After a year of solid producing, Djax gave him his first real break, releasing his Ctrl-Alt-Delete E.P. Influences include the harder sound of Chicago, along with U.K. artists, such as Cristian Vogel, Neil Landstrumm and Subhead. He also records for Charlie Hall's Pro-Jex imprint, and Ibrahim Alfa's Automatic.
